Emerging Technologies – Frame VR

For week 2 We took a look at Frame VR.

Frame VR or WebXR is an interactive 3D environment area with a large range of pre-set environments. These range from gallery spaces, classrooms, office spaces and resorts. These environments don’t require any coding knowledge to set up and can be created on the web via a computer or VR headset.

These pre-sets and cross platform integration make it an easy to use collaborative space that can be used by teams of people to design, protype and share products or experiences seamlessly.

My Gallery Space:

As part of our lab experimentation we created a quick gallery of some of our work that we had available to us. I mainly went with showcasing different pieces of work over the course of 2 years at the university that I had readily available. I chose to represent this in the form of images and videos that I applied over a small preset ‘gallery’ environment.

I went against including any physical models of my work as there is a file cap size limit on the area. So by including various images and videos the I was able to have more in the environment then had I placed 2 or 3 models in there.

The models also couldn’t be exported directly from Maya. Instead I had to import them into blender to export into a file size FrameVR would accept. This meant that the models I thought about adding would be without any of their textures, which I didn’t feel would look right next to some images or videos of the finished piece.

Concepts and Ideas:

Due to how limited FrameVR is in content, both in terms of relevant and usable environments as well as the file size limit. If I were to take this forward ,I would have to combine this with something else.

I could expand on the idea of a gallery by changing the environment or adding in some more of my work. With a larger environment I could split each area into a different part to showcase different pieces of work. I could also add in some text and make it a more virtual environment of my blog.
